Murak'Atoll a Sustainable utopia for Maldives
- Year2013
- LocationMaldives
Murak'Atoll offers a poetic utopia of new sustainable urban form, offering an alternative to the way of living and exploit the geography of the Maldives which suffered the brunt of global warming and the rising level of oceans.
Its urban organization, as well as its growth, is inspired by the pattern of cell division coral.
Villages grow into three levels: water as a waterway, pontoons as access to agricultural platforms and traps for fish and finally the level of housing.
Using materials that are easy to produce and replacable, such as bamboo or limestone produced by reverse electrolysis, circular houses are thoughts on a self-build scheme for greater flexibility for users.
