Italy has a unique geography with the highest risk of erosion in Europe. Given that a majority of the country's population lives in proximity to the coast this is a threat not only to the environment but also to the inhabitants. I propose a series of steps to be undertaken jointly by companies and individuals to create new coastal surface using the hydrodynamic behaviour of detached breakwaters as a tool. New breakwaters formed with on-site available resources protect the coast and to benefit the coastal communities and create new natural ecologies through participatory means.
